It’s been 10 years since the greatest single-incident loss of US lives in the war in Afghanistan, also known as Operation Enduring Freedom, on August 6th, 2011. Thirty-one Americans lost their lives when their CH-47 plane was shot down by the Taliban. The event came to be known by the callsign for the CH-47 that went down, Extortion 17.
A decade later, Legacy Expeditions, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, and former Recon Marine; Scout-Sniper; and retired U.S. Navy SEAL Mike Sarraille are teaming up to honor the fallen and support the families left behind. Mike will perform an extreme expedition stunt to raise funds for the more than 25 children who lost a parent on that tragic day. Backed by Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a nonprofit that empowers families of the fallen and severely wounded Special Operations Warriors, all of the proceeds will go towards the childrens’ education. Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides college scholarships and educational counseling to the surviving children of Special Operations personnel killed in the line of duty.
To commemorate those lost on Extortion 17, Mike Sarraille will skydive from the highest drop zone in the world—Mount Everest—with the goal of raising $500,000 in donations for Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the families of the deceased. His 20 plus years of experience in Special Operations, including the elite Joint Special Operations Command, has mentally prepared him to take this dive. And to physically prepare, Mike will undergo an Alpine Canopy Control Course in Colorado in preparation for the Mt. Everest Skydive Expedition. Starting October 14th and ending October 29th, Mike will complete 3 jumps into the highest drop zones in the world, requiring special training and equipment to breathe at those dangerously high altitudes.
He has experience translating his military background, and the determined mindset that comes with it, into everyday life and life’s big challenges. Mike is the co-author of the best-selling book, The Talent War: How Special Operations and Great Organizations Win on Talent, and a columnist for Men’s Journal under the Everyday Warrior Series.
He is the founder and CEO of Talent War Group, a management consulting and executive search firm, and founder and CEO of ATTA, a total wellness company, launching this fall. Mike is recognized as a top thought leader on leadership, leadership development, and living a life of impact through an Everyday Warrior Mindset.
Mike served alongside the men of Extortion 17, his brothers in arms, and needs your help to honor their memory by ensuring their children have a secure education. Donate to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and support Mike’s big jump here, at legacyexpeditions.net.
