Tuesday Tip: Using Event Hashtags

Using an event hashtag in your social media efforts can help you build your brand and visibility. Here are some tips on the best ways to use a hashtag for your next event.

  1. Be sure you choose something unique to your event. If everyone is branding their event in the same way, how will yours stand out? Use a name unique to your event so that when searched, only posts that pertain to your event show up.
  2. Be consistent with your hashtag. Use it EVERY TIME you talk about your event. Put it on your marketing materials, encourage event attendees to use it before, during and even after that event.
  3. Share your hashtag. Tell everyone to use it. Even better, assign a few people from your event team to live tweet during the event using your hashtag to keep your conversation going. I’ve also seen event planners use their hashtag as a way to manage Q&A.
  4. Finally, if you have a keynote speaker at your event, be sure you tag your speaker in your posts. When you hear an inspirational quote or a key takeaway, tweet it with your hashtag and tag your speakers. Speakers want to know what part of their message resonates with their audience. You may even get a retweet out of it!
