Caregiving Kinetics

Caregiving Kinetics

Dr. Aaron Blight is the founder of Caregiving Kinetics, a boutique consulting firm dedicated to expanding the world’s capacity to care for the aging population. Dr. Blight’s career spans more than 20 years of leadership as a caregiving provider, policymaker, and researcher.

For 10 years, Dr. Blight was the President & CEO of two Home Instead Senior Care franchises located in Virginia and West Virginia. As a provider, he led a staff of 390 caregivers located across 3,000 square miles of territory. In addition, Dr. Blight became a thought leader in the network and regularly strategized with the franchisor on caregiving innovation, caregiving research, and international growth. Dr. Blight’s franchises successfully achieved record-breaking revenues for ten consecutive years, and he was ranked among the highest performing Home Instead Senior Care franchisees in the world. Dr. Blight designed and conducted original academic research within the industry on factors affecting caregiver commitment, and he presented his findings in industry and academic conferences and meetings.

Dr. Blight sold his Home Instead Senior Care franchises in August of 2017. The franchisor subsequently hired him as a consultant to examine system-wide challenges and opportunities in the areas of caregiving disaster preparedness, remote care monitoring, and collaboration with medical providers and payers.

Dr. Blight served two years as President of Tailored Care Enterprises, a firm that uses an evidence-based approach, rooted in applied gerontology, to target effective supports for family caregivers.

Regarding care policy, Dr. Blight held a series of leadership positions at the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). At CMS, he developed healthcare policy and regulations and oversaw healthcare financing within the federal Medicaid program. His tenure at CMS included service as Director of Financial Operations of the Medicaid program and as a Social Science Research Analyst in the Disabled and Elderly Health Programs Group.

Academically, Dr. Blight serves as an Adjunct Professor of Healthcare Management and Public Health at Shenandoah University. He holds a Doctor of Education (Human & Organizational Learning) degree from George Washington University, a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Baltimore, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University.

Dr. Blight is an honorary board member of Well Spouse Association, and he serves on the advisory board of the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging.

Dr. Blight speaks on caregiving, caregivers, and the giving or receiving of care.

Care for Others, Care for Yourself

People who are caregivers usually offer themselves to others with little thought of recognition or reward. However, it’s important for caregivers to know that in addition to caring for others, they must also take care of themselves. This compelling presentation emphasizes the giving and receiving of care – not only for others but also for oneself – as imperatives for wellness.

On the Giving of Care – For Healthcare Providers

As a healthcare organization, caregiving is the essence of what you do every day. You employ caregivers, and you serve patients as well as their families. However, caregivers are usually so busy with the tasks of caregiving that they rarely reflect upon the meaning of their activities. This thoughtful, emotive, and inspiring presentation breaks down the components of caregiving into four parts – Roles, Relationships, Realities, and Rewards – helping the audience to more effectively fulfill care-related roles and support others with care-related responsibilities.

Crack the Caregiving Code

Caregivers are usually so busy with the tasks of caregiving that they rarely reflect upon the meaning of their activities. Non-caregivers usually don’t think about caregiving much at all, even though caregiving will likely touch their lives in the future. This thoughtful, emotive, and inspiring presentation breaks down caregiving into four component parts, motivating caregivers to get help and non-caregivers to give help.
