Anthony Orsini Speaker Biography

Dr. Anthony Orsini is a practicing intensive care physician and the author of the book "It's All in the Delivery - Improving Healthcare Starting with a Single Conversation". Widely considered an expert in communication, relationship building, and enhancing the patient experience, Dr. Orsini has been a frequent national speaker in both the healthcare and business industry.

Profoundly impacted by an early career experience and the discovery that even the most successful and well-respected physicians struggled with their communication skills, Dr. Orsini has spent the last 25 years developing proven communication techniques that quickly form trusting relationships with patients, co-workers, and employees. Through his interactive and inspiring presentations, he has trained healthcare providers, hospital executives, and business leaders how to navigate through the most difficult conversations, enhance their communication skills, and become more fulfilled with their own lives.

In 2011, he founded The Orsini Way, a company that provides communication training to healthcare and business professionals. He has appeared in local and national news and his work has been featured in the most prestigious publications in business and healthcare including Forbes Magazine, Medical Economics, and Fox News. His recent TED talk, How the Human Connection Improves Healthcare, is being used by medical schools and colleges across the United States.

Dr. Orsini is a member of the National Speakers Association and his presentations are consistently ranked among the highest at retreats and conferences. He shares his wisdom and passion on a weekly podcast: Difficult Conversations: Lessons I Learned as an ICU Physician, which reached the Apple op 100 in just a few weeks.

IT'S ALL IN THE DELIVERY
It’s All in the Delivery utilizes comprehensive communication training to create culture change and improve your hospital’s patient satisfaction scores. This course has been proven successful in small practices as well as larger hospital units. Using The Orsini Way® of communicating, physicians, nurses and hospital staff learn how to effectively communicate, build relationships with patients and enhance the overall patient experience. Workshops are available both live and virtually. For your most remote team members, access to the workshop via a 3-part online learning module is also available.

A new 8 part online learning experience that breaks these concepts down into easy, shorter-to-view segments will reinforce the concepts taught in the workshop. All while providing access to users by engaging them in interactive exercises that allow culture change to become seamless.

More than just training, this program incorporates a comprehensive assessment of your current state of patient satisfaction, a train-the-trainer component as well as team members from the Orsini Way who will provide follow-up and support designed to ensure ongoing compliance. Training your staff using The Orsini Way ensures the right partners are available to create and support this innovative and proven way of communicating with patients and families.

DIFFICULT DIALOGUES
Whether in the hospital or workplace, our Difficult Dialogues program teaches effective communication skills that can be called upon when situations don’t go as planned. The framework to navigate difficult workplace conversations including conflict resolution, performance feedback, dissatisfied customers, and disaffected employees are some of the many covered in this course. Using The Orsini Way of communication, participants will master skills to positively influence outcomes of challenging situations encountered daily. When this course is combined with our experiential role-play, effective and sustainable techniques are gained. Physicians who participate in this program will also gain the skills necessary to complete the very difficult task of discussing medical errors with patients and families. This course meets ACGME requirements for discussing medical errors, and it is a very useful tool for all residency programs. Difficult Dialogues can even be used as a remediation tool for physicians who have a hard time when conversations get tense. Well organized and thought-provoking, this program is extremely helpful to both physicians as well as HR executives. Available as in-person or remote learning.

BREAKING BAD NEWS
Would you believe that only 10% of senior physicians report any formal training on how to effectively break bad news to a patient or family member? After a defining personal experience, Dr. Orsini has spent 20 years developing and crafting the training techniques used in the Breaking Bad News program. Many participants consider the experience “life-changing” and have a significant improvement in their confidence and decreased anxiety when performing this difficult task.

Studies have shown that how patients hear bad news can affect them for decades, yet most physicians have never been trained properly. In fact, physicians associate the act of breaking bad news to patients and families with fear and anxiety. The Breaking Bad News program teaches proven communication methods that help physicians deliver the news in the most effective and compassionate manner. Using the BBN P.R.O.G.R.A.M ® roadmap, clinicians learn in a safe and private environment in as little as one hour. Unlike any other program, the Breaking Bad News Program utilizes experiential learning with professional actors. Unscripted cases, written specifically for your team help the participants see their behaviors while a team of trainers give immediate feedback. The training has been called “life-changing” because it’s real and it works. This program is ideal for both resident and senior physicians. Even your most remote team member can be trained as virtual Breaking Bad News sessions are now available.
