Jake “The Snake” Roberts Speaker Biography
Jake Roberts, more commonly known as “Jake the Snake Roberts”, is a professional wrestler known for bringing snakes in the ring more often than not. Roberts is in the process of retiring but has certainly created an image for himself over the years. Also referred to as Fred Black, El Diablo, and the Texan, Roberts has been known for bringing creativity into the ring. In addition to live snakes, he has been credited with using psychology to captivate others along with his dark charisma.
Roberts was born in Gainesville, Texas with a birth name of Aurelian Smith, Jr. and debuted professionally in wrestling in 1975. As a member of the then World Wrestling Foundation (WWF), Roberts shocked audiences from the start with his witty ways when using his first snake on opponent Andre the Giant whom had a well-known fear of snakes in 1989. Continuing to take his creativity into the ring, Roberts was trained by Buck Robley, Grizzly Smith and Moose Morowski throughout his nearly forty-year career. He has since appeared in several video games as well as an episode of Boy Meets World.
