Joe Morgan Speaker Biography

Elected to Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1990, Joe Morgan is arguably the best second baseman ever. He was the unsung team member that made Cincinnati’s Big Red machine the best team of the 1970’s. He played in four World Series and was a winner in three.

In his twenty-two seasons, Morgan displayed a rare blend of intelligence, speed and power. His accomplishments include being named National League Rookie of the Year in 1965, National League MVP in 1975 and 1976, NL comeback Player of the Year in 1982, 10 time All-Star Selection and he won five Gold Gloves.

Joe’s drive for excellence was transferred from baseball to broadcasting with his retirement in 1984. For the past ten years he has worked as a network baseball commentator and, is currently the number one analyst for ESPN’s Sunday Night network broadcast of Major League Baseball. In addition, Joe broadcasts for The Baseball Network and Oakland A’s cable on Sportschannel.

Joe has also experienced success with his business endeavors. He has been an owner of Wendy’s Restaurants and is currently the President of Joe Morgan Beverage Company, distributing Coors beer and other beverages.

Joe’s interest and concern for young people have led him to give back to his Oakland community. He gives generously of his time and money to the Young American Baseball program and he was the founder of the Joe Morgan Youth Foundation, which provides scholarships for needy students.

In the spring of 1993, Joe’s autobiography, co-authored with David Falkner, Joe Morgan: A Life in Baseball, made its debut.
