Carina Bruwer Speaker Biography
Most keynote speakers draw on one extraordinary story. Carina Bruwer has three. She is one of Africa’s most accomplished open water marathon swimmers, the founder of an internationally award-winning music group with more than 2,000 performances across 20 countries, and an entrepreneur who rebuilt a technology platform from the ground up – without a formal technical background – using AI. Her keynote on resilience, adaptability and performance brings all three together. Few speakers can draw on experience at this level across sport, business, technology and the performing arts.
In the water, Carina has completed some of the world’s most demanding and pioneering marathon swims, including the English Channel, Gibraltar Straits, False Bay, Nelson Mandela Bay and the Bonifacio Straits – as well as multiple record-setting crossings she remains the only person ever to have completed, among them solo swims at both the northern and southern tips of Africa, a continuous crossing of France, Monaco and Italy, and Walker Bay, in waters notorious for great white sharks. She is recognized among the World Open Water Swimming Association’s “Top 50 Most Daring, Courageous and Audacious” swimmers worldwide – a distinction shared by the sport’s all-time greats. Through her Swim For Hope initiative, she has raised millions in funding and media value for charitable causes. On stage, as genre-defying performer and founder of Sterling EQ, Carina spent three decades at the forefront of South African music – redefining the instrumental genre, performing more than 2,000 shows across 20 countries, and building one of South Africa’s most successful crossover music brands.
In business, she has founded and led ventures across media, events, entertainment and technology. Most recently, she led the complete reinvention of a sophisticated technology marketplace platform serving thousands of users, despite having no formal technical background. Leveraging AI-assisted development, Carina navigated the challenges of rebuilding a complex software business at a moment when AI is rewriting the rules of who gets to build technology. The experience became a powerful real-time lesson in learning, unlearning and leading through disruption. Her work as an entrepreneur has also been recognized through numerous business and leadership awards.
Today, Carina speaks to organizations facing accelerating change, increasing complexity and the pressure to perform at higher levels than ever before. Her presentations draw on documented, lived experience – not borrowed metaphor – to deliver a distinctive perspective on resilience, adaptability and performance. Clients include DBS Bank, DigiCert, impact.com, Women in Tech Global, Haleon, YPO, ABSA, Woolworths, Momentum, Sanlam, FNB and Ninety One, among hundreds of organizations across Africa and internationally.
With three decades at the top of three entirely different disciplines, Carina brings something rare to the stage: proof that excellence is transferable, reinvention is learnable, and perceived limits are often little more than assumptions.

The Art of Turning the Tide
Organizations don’t need another keynote speaker who talks about change — they need one who has lived it. Carina Bruwer is a keynote speaker on change, transformation and resilience drawn from three decades competing at the highest level: as a world-record open-water marathon swimmer, a recording artist with 2,000+ performances across 20 countries, and a tech founder who rebuilt a sophisticated platform from scratch — without a formal technical background — using AI. Her keynote answers the question every leader is facing: how do you sustain clarity, energy and performance while everything around you is shifting?
Key takeaways:
- Navigating uncertainty: A practical framework for staying decisive, adaptive and creative when conditions keep changing.
- Reinvention as a discipline: How elite performers rebuild themselves repeatedly without losing identity or momentum.
- Pressure into performance: Turning pressure-filled moments — pitch, stage, scoreboard or market — into your best work.
- Creativity under constraint: Why complexity, uncertainty and limitation can become powerful drivers of innovation.
