Patrice Harris

Dr. Patrice Harris, a renowned child and adolescent psychiatrist from Atlanta, was the 174th president of the American Medical Association and the first African American woman to hold this position. She is the CEO of eMed, a digital health company, as well as the Medical Editor in Chief for Everyday Health, a consumer health and wellness resource. She is Visiting Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

A private practicing physician, public health administrator and patient advocate, Dr. Harris has been an active leader in organized medicine for her entire career. She has served on the AMA’s Board of Trustees since 2011, including a term as chair, and has been the chair of the AMA Opioid Task Force since its inception in 2014. Beyond AMA, Dr. Harris has held positions of leadership with the American Psychiatric Association, Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association, Medical Association of Georgia, and The Big Cities Health Coalition.

A fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Harris continues in private practice and she is an adjunct assistant professor in the Emory Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and an adjunct clinical assistant professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Morehouse School of Medicine.
