From exploring more than 40 countries as a National Geographic Explorer to studying mindfulness and emotional intelligence for over a decade, Chris Bashinelli has carved a path that few could have predicted, and even fewer could replicate. Today, he brings his wealth of personal experiences, global adventures, and hard-won wisdom to stages around the world as a keynote speaker. His mission? To help people connect with themselves and with others in deeper, more meaningful ways.
Through powerful storytelling, cultural immersion, and a deep commitment to self-awareness, Bashinelli speaks on themes of leadership, resilience, emotional intelligence, and human connection. His keynotes are not about checking boxes or chasing trends — they are about learning how to show up more fully, lead with intention, and foster a workplace culture built on authenticity, empathy, and understanding one another.
We spoke with Bashinelli about the path that led him to speaking, the transformative power of travel and perspective, and why creating space for connection might be the most important thing a company can do.
Early in his career, Bashinelli landed a role on The Sopranos. But the experience left him with more questions than answers.
"Right after I booked The Sopranos, I had this feeling like, gosh, I want to be doing something different with my life," he says. "I don't know what it is, but I know it's in media. And I wondered if we could use television in a more meaningful way."
That question would eventually lead him to Tanzania to study anthropology, on a trip that would forever change his worldview. "I went to Africa with the notion of 'I'm going to help people,' but I learned very quickly that people don't need our help. People want us to understand them. They want us to walk in their shoes."
For Bashinelli, the power of travel lies not just in where you go, but in how you engage.
"Travel is only 50% of it. The other 50% is mindfulness," he explains. "Bringing self-awareness and reflection to all of these experiences is what allows them to transform us."
Those lessons have deep implications for leadership and team dynamics. Bashinelli draws a clear line between what he learned living with nomads in Mongolia or working alongside vanilla farmers in Uganda, and the way businesses operate today.
"Everything I’ve learned about human interaction echoes into the business community. People can sense whether you're trying to get something or whether you genuinely care."
Rather than sharing a list of tips, Bashinelli uses stories and insight to inspire a mindset shift. His goal is to create the conditions for transformation, ultimately to help people see themselves and others in a new light.
"The greatest thing we can do is create a space where we can truly connect with others. That’s how we uncover each person’s unique strengths and empower our organizations to thrive."
By drawing on real moments of challenge, growth, and cultural exchange, he invites audiences to reflect on their own motivations and relationships — both at work and beyond in their everyday lives.
Bashinelli’s goal is both deeply personal and universally relevant. He believes the workplace can be a place of transformation, not just transaction.
"Ultimately, what I'm trying to do in my talks is to help people connect with an inner source of happiness that's not dependent on external circumstances," he shares. "That kind of awareness and self-understanding has a ripple effect — it changes how we lead, how we collaborate, and how we show up for each other."
His message is one of hope, of growth, and of humanity. One could argue that this message of human connection couldn’t come at a more timely moment with the political and economic climates sewing division and uncertainty.
With his signature blend of global storytelling, emotional depth, and practical insight, Chris Bashinelli offers something rare: a keynote experience that is as heart-opening as it is actionable. Whether he's talking about resilience, perspective, or the power of presence, he invites every audience to rethink what truly matters — in business and in life.
Organizations that bring in Bashinelli can expect more than just inspiration. They walk away with a deeper understanding of how to lead with empathy, foster team connection, and build a culture that values both performance and people.

I am so proud of my brother and everything he is doing. He truly is changing the world one speech at a time. As Jane Goodall said, “We need more people like Chris in the world.”
